Seniors of the Villages Retirement Community's Horsin' Around Club
were invited to a Paso Fino breed demonstration and demo ride. The
event which took place on
April 10, 2008
at United Paso Finos was organized by Carlos and Tara Tobon of
Tobon Paso Fino Studio. The Horsin' Around Club
is open to all interested seniors, with the only requirement that you
enjoy horses and horse related activities and are a Villages resident.
You do not need to own a horse.

The
enthusiastic group showed up with their chairs and umbrellas anxious
to watch and learn. Tara
first demonstrated a recreational pleasure horse. Then the United Paso
Finos trainers brought out Pasos one by one…a gorgeous young fino colt
on a lead line, a pleasure horse, a performance horse, and last a
stunning fino stallion. As the seniors intently watched the “dancing
horses”, Carlos educated the group about the breed and its history. He
introduced them to their hostess, Alei Ortiz of United Paso Finos and
she explained her involvement in the breed as a trainer and breeder.

Next
the group moved to the round pen where club members who were
interested in a first-hand Paso experience could take a test ride one
of the Tobon's wonderfully mannered lesson geldings. As one rider
after another stepped up “to give it a whirl” on the smoothest riding
horse, "paso grins" where seen all around the riding ring as each
rider felt the wonderful gliding motion of the horse.

At
the conclusion of the event, the group gathered to tell the Tobon's
that it was the most educational and enjoyable field trip the club had
ever taken. Many even expressed an interest in beginning lessons with
their riding school, "The Studio".
It
is this type of event that raises the awareness and interest in the
Paso Fino breed. Thank you to all who take time from their busy
schedules to be good ambassadors for the breed!
